The Science Behind the cPLR’s (Mechanism of Action)

RED LIGHT (620-630 nm) – will activate end of sensitivity spectrum for canine rhodopsin and long wavelength opsin. Since melanopsin spectral sensitivity ends at 580 nm, this particular pigment will not be activated with red light of this specific properties

BLUE LIGHT (480 nm) stimulates peak of melanopsin sensitivity, so presence of pupil response may be result of retinal ganglion cells activation without rod-cone input.

  • Photoreceptor mediated component (fast, immediate onset, low light intensity sensitive) – RED
  • Melanopsin mediated component (slow, delayed onset, high light intensity needed) – BLUE
